Fire engines fund-raiser set for Diss supermarket
A fire engine will be outside a Diss supermarket next week as part of a fund-raiser to get it to Ukraine.
Diss and District Rotary Club is trying to raise money to send a pair of purchased ex-Norfolk Fire Service fire engines to the war-torn country.
The purchase, refurbishment and re-equipping of them has been funded by the charities Actions Beyond Words and Fire Aid.
The engine will be outside Morrisons, in Victoria Road, on March 21, between 9am and 4.30pm, and on March 22, between 9am and 3pm.
People will get a chance to take a closer look at the engine and even climb aboard.
One engine is set for Uzhgorod in western Ukraine and the other is going to Odessa in the south-west of the country.
For their journeys, the engines will be driven by fire personnel from Norfolk Fire and Rescue who have volunteered and the units will contain much-needed medical aid.
All proceeds from the days will go towards the cost of the fuel, the ferry and other expenses plus the costs of medical or fire equipment.
You can donate on the day or go to www.dissrotary.org.uk.
